Krabi Province has over 150 beaches. From the easy access of Ao Nang Beach itself to the boat-only paradise of Phra Nang Cave, here are the best — ranked honestly, with how to get to each one.
🥇 1. Phra Nang Cave Beach — Best Overall
The most jaw-dropping beach accessible from Ao Nang. A perfect crescent of white sand backed by vertical limestone cliffs, with a sacred cave at the south end filled with offerings. The water is clear and shallow enough for swimming.
Access: Longtail boat from Ao Nang (฿100–200, 20 min) or walk from East Railay at low tide. Crowds: Busy 10 AM–3 PM. Go early or late afternoon.
🥈 2. West Railay Beach — Most Scenic for Sunset
Long, palm-fringed, and flanked by cliffs on three sides. The beach itself is sandier and wider than Phra Nang, with several beach bars and restaurants. The sunset here is truly spectacular.
Access: Longtail from Ao Nang (฿100–200, 15 min). Best time: 4–7 PM for golden hour.
🥉 3. Koh Poda — Best for Snorkelling
A small island with brilliant white sand, coral just offshore, and water so clear you can see the bottom at 5 metres. No development on the island — just beach, jungle, and reef. Part of most 4-Island tours.
Access: Longtail or speedboat, typically as part of an island tour. Tip: Go early — it gets crowded by midday.
4. Ao Nang Beach — Best for Convenience
The main beach in town. Not the most scenic (the view includes longtail boats and beach vendors) but incredibly convenient — restaurants, bars, shops, and the island pier are all steps away. Good swimming at high tide.
Access: You're probably staying here. Best time: Early morning before the boats start running.
5. Chicken Island (Koh Kai) — Best Sandbar
Famous for the natural sandbar connecting two islands at low tide — you can walk between them knee-deep in water. The rock formation looks like a chicken's head. Excellent snorkelling.
Access: Longtail or speedboat, part of the 4-Islands tour.
6. Koh Hong — Most Remote and Rewarding
A full day trip with a hidden lagoon, sea caves, and a beach that sees far fewer tourists than Phi Phi or the 4 Islands. The paddle into the interior lagoon by kayak is the highlight.
Access: Speedboat or longtail tour (฿1,100–1,500). Takes 45–60 min each way.
7. Maya Bay, Phi Phi Leh — Most Famous
The beach from The Beach. You've seen the photos — the reality is even better, especially early morning before the speedboats arrive. It's a 45–60 min speedboat ride from Ao Nang as part of a full-day Phi Phi tour.
Access: Phi Phi Islands speedboat day tour (฿1,800 direct). Not accessible independently.
